Can Palestinians Use the Internet Again, Thanks to Elon Musk's Starlink?

Palestinians in Gaza can now communicate again as internet and telephone services begin to recover. Previously, this communication service was down due to the escalation of Israeli attacks. Is this because of Elon Musk's Starlink assistance? It turns out that's not the case.

Paltel Group, a company providing communications services in Gaza, revealed that since Sunday (29/10/2023) landline, cellular and internet services can gradually be used again.

"Our technical team diligently resolved damage to the internal network infrastructure in challenging conditions," said Paltel Group, quoted by Al Jazeera, Monday (30/10/2023).

"May God protect you all and our country," he said.

Majed Abusalama, an opinion columnist at Al Jazeera, was moved because he was able to contact and hear his mother's voice again.

"Hopefully people can reach his family now. No one knows how long it will take," he wrote on his social media.

It is known that Gaza experienced a total communications blackout for almost 36 hours after the Israeli air strike on Friday (27/10/2023). The impact of the attack destroyed the provider's lines and communications.

Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have warned that a lack of communication in the enclave is hampering efforts to document war crimes and other abuses.
